What is the difference between emboss and deboss?
Embossing raises the design above the paper surface, while debossing recesses it below the surface. You achieve this by pressing a die into the substrate; for embossing, the die pushes the material upward, whereas for debossing, it pushes it downward. Both techniques rely on heat and pressure to permanently alter the paper’s texture. If you apply no ink or metallic foil, the effect is called blind, which highlights the tactile difference between the raised and recessed areas. This contrast creates a sophisticated, professional finish often used for logos and key text elements on premium cards.
