FAQ

What contrast ratio do I need?

WCAG AA requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (18pt+/14pt bold). AAA requires 7:1 for normal and 4.5:1 for large text.

Why does this matter for print?

Low-contrast type — pale grey on white, or white on a light stock — is hard to read in the hand and worse in low light. A contrast check catches that before you print.

Does CMYK change the contrast?

Yes. This tool uses screen (sRGB) colours. Printed CMYK colours can differ, so treat the result as a guide and check a proof for critical work.
