Pre-press
Pre-press is the collection of technical processes that occur between final design approval and the start of physical printing. In the context of prepress printing, this phase ensures that digital files are technically correct and color-accurate before they reach the press.
Key tasks include setting proper bleed and trim dimensions, converting RGB screen colors to CMYK process inks, and embedding fonts. Professionals also generate proofs to verify layout and color fidelity. For business cards, this stage is critical for ensuring that spot inks, such as Pantone colors, are correctly separated and that file resolution meets the 300 DPI standard required for sharp text and images.
