Ganging up
Ganging up, or ganging print, is the pre-press technique of placing multiple distinct job files onto a single large printing sheet. This arrangement allows printers to produce several smaller items, such as business cards or flyers, in a single press run. By fitting multiple jobs onto one sheet, printers reduce the number of paper passes required, which significantly lowers material waste and machine setup time.
The process requires careful attention to layout and spacing. Pre-press software must ensure that each ganged item has adequate bleed and safe margins so that individual pieces can be cleanly cut apart after printing. Proper ganging ensures that the final trim lines do not interfere with adjacent jobs, maintaining print quality for every item on the sheet. This efficiency makes ganging a standard practice in commercial offset and digital printing workflows.
