NCR paper
NCR paper, or no-carbon-required paper, is a specialized coated stock that records information through a chemical reaction rather than mechanical carbon transfer. When pressure is applied, such as by a pen tip or typing bar, a donor layer releases a dye precursor that reacts with a receptor layer on the sheet below to form a visible mark. This technology allows for the creation of multi-part forms where each copy is generated simultaneously without the need for a separate carbon sheet.
The process typically involves a base sheet with a receptor coating and a top sheet with a donor coating. NCR stocks are widely used in invoices, receipts, and delivery notes where immediate, legible duplicates are required. The paper is available in various weights and finishes, though it is generally less durable than standard uncoated stocks due to the sensitivity of the chemical coatings to moisture and heat.
