UV coating
UV coating is a clear varnish applied to the surface of printed materials that cures instantly under ultraviolet light. Unlike traditional solvent or water-based varnishes, which require time to dry, UV systems harden rapidly, allowing for high-speed production. The coating provides a protective layer against moisture, abrasion, and fingerprints while enhancing the visual contrast of the ink underneath.
In business card production, UV coatings are often used to create specific tactile and visual effects. A standard full-surface application adds a uniform gloss or matte finish. More specialized techniques, such as spot UV, allow the coating to be applied only to selected areas, creating a textural contrast against a matte background. This is frequently paired with foil stamping or embossing to add depth and premium feel to the final product.
