Emboss
Embossing is a finishing process that creates a raised relief on the surface of a business card. It utilizes heat and pressure to transfer a die-cut design into the paper stock, creating a tactile, three-dimensional effect. An embossed business card often features a logo or name that stands out from the surrounding flat area, adding a premium, tactile quality to the piece.
This technique relies on the physical properties of the paper; heavier stocks generally produce a deeper, more defined impression. The process can be performed with or without ink, though it is frequently combined with foil stamping for enhanced visual contrast. Proper registration of the die against the paper is critical to ensure the raised elements align precisely with the printed design.
