Soft-touch lamination

Soft-touch lamination is a protective film applied to printed materials that combines a matte visual finish with a distinct, velvety hand-feel. Unlike standard matte lamination, which is smooth and dry, soft-touch films feature a specific texture that feels slightly plush or rubbery to the touch. This finish is widely used on business cards and premium packaging because it offers a premium tactile experience while providing excellent resistance to fingerprints, water, and abrasion.

The film is typically applied via heat and pressure, bonding the polymer layer to the substrate. It effectively hides minor printing imperfections and provides a uniform, low-sheen surface that enhances the perception of quality. Designers often pair this finish with spot UV or foil stamping to create high-contrast visual and tactile elements, leveraging the matte background to make glossy or metallic details stand out more prominently.
