What is the difference between bleed and safe area?
Bleed is the extra margin of artwork that extends beyond the final trim size, ensuring that background colors or images reach the paper edge without leaving unprinted white slivers. In contrast, the safe area is the inner boundary where you must keep all critical text and logos to guarantee they are not accidentally cut off. For standard business cards, you typically add 1.5 mm of bleed around the trim line while maintaining a 3 mm buffer for essential content. This separation ensures your design survives the physical cutting process intact.
