FAQ
What is grammage (gsm)?
Grams per square metre — the weight of one square metre of paper. It is absolute, so it means the same at any sheet size. Office paper is ~75–90 gsm; business cards ~250–400 gsm.
What is basis weight (lb)?
The weight of a ream (500 sheets) at that stock’s base size. Because base sizes differ by stock (bond, text, cover…), the same paper weight is a different lb number for each — which is why lb is only meaningful alongside the stock.
How do I get the weight of a sheet of paper?
Multiply the sheet’s area (m²) by the grammage (g/m²). A 350 gsm A4 sheet is 0.210 × 0.297 × 350 ≈ 21.8 g. Multiply by quantity for the total.
